Who actually delivers the Go.Courses training? Meet our trainer - Alan Gilbert

By Samantha Allen 16 Nov 2018

Being a digital company in 2018 is a popular option and has plenty of positives. Being able to help as many people as possible, anywhere in the UK and beyond is one of our favourites. As Go.Courses is a digital platform, we make sure we offer the best IT and personal development training courses, while making it as easy as possible for you to book the best instructors. But in this digital age it’s good to know who is behind the pixels.
While we offer virtual live online training, as well as in-house or location-specific training, there is always a real human being at the root of everything. None of our courses are simply recorded and uploaded to the internet. Every course we offer is delivered LIVE in real-time by a person who is an expert at what they do.
With that in mind, we thought you’d like to know a little bit more about the people delivering the training. First up, we have Alan Gilbert, a man who knows how to deliver excellent training courses for us, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
How did they end up as a trainer?
Alan describes his journey; “I literally fell into this profession of Training Consultant in 1994, while upskilling taking an NVQ in IT. I was approached by the course provider and asked to join their team. As I gained further City & Guilds qualifications, I subsequently ended up assessing NVQ candidates for them. Since then I have become a Microsoft Office Specialist and started my own training business.”
“I have the utmost respect for people working in this profession. We all work well together as a team. I’ve known Chris Onslow at Go.Courses for many years, and we certainly share the same goal of providing clients with the best possible learning experience.”
Who have they trained?
Alan does lots of work for us, and one of our key clients is MediaCom. They are a dynamic multi award winning media agency who know the importance of investing in training. MediaCom’s average employee is 26 years old and they hold accounts with adidas, Sky and many other high profile companies. Each month Alan delivers Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint training for them at their London office. Over the years, Alan has personally delivered regular Excel and PowerPoint courses for us, and every course has been fully booked.
What's more important than your customers?
On this topic Alan enthuses; “I place the emphasis on increasing loyalty and satisfaction for my course attendees. Maintaining those historic relationships is important, as well as looking for new opportunities.” Most business people would agree that happy customers generally lead to more new customers. He continues; “The importance for me is my passion for teaching, and I truly care about the progression of those attending my classes. In return classes are more enjoyable for everyone.”
What’s their biggest bit of advice?
Alan shares; “I consider one of the best ways to develop is to push yourself. The best way I find to do this is by problem solving. This allows me to develop on the job, and because of that, I’m always happy to help solve problems.”
What is our trainer learning right now?
Just because Alan is a qualified trainer, that doesn’t mean he’s finished his learning journey. You can never know too much. Especially in the tech world, there’s always something new to learn, as things are continuously changing and improving.
Alan explains; “Although I’m not great at maths, I have always had a flair for Excel. It's just a great Microsoft program that keeps getting better with time. Now incorporating the Power BI analytics tools, I’m on another learning curve and enjoying it! Many organisations are now using these powerfully dynamic apps.”
